Dental Implants… what are they?
Dental implants are a permanent way of replacing missing teeth and they feel, work and look very much like your own teeth. Dental implants are long-lasting tooth root replacements that are implanted into your jaw to simulate the root of a pre-existing tooth. Replacement teeth are then restored on to the implant, returning you to a confident smile. Unlike dentures or bridges, dental implants don’t move or shift and they can last a lifetime.
Would implants be right for me?
First, you should decide whether implants could be right for you. Contact us to arrange an implant consultation and discussion and we will let you know the possibilities. Our team will be only too happy to help you with any questions you may have.
If you decide to go ahead, this is what will happen.
- Bone is exposed in the jaw where the tooth/teeth are missing. A hole is drilled and the implant is inserted into the bone.
- The implant is placed or pushed into the bone and the gum is then stitched so that it heals over the implant.
- Under the gum, the bone then grows around the implant to hold it secure. This takes several months.
It is very important to maintain a routine of good oral hygiene following an implant to make sure the surrounding teeth and gums stay healthy. If you follow the advice of your dentist and carefully, your implant can last a lifetime.
